Know The Causes and Prevention of Bad breath

how to prevent bad breath?
Bad Breath is almost everyone’s problem; nobody likes that people stay away from them or avoid being close to them just because of bad breath. While many people tend to look for ways to end it once and for all, what they do not realize is that they should know the causes of it. Knowing the causes will help you to completely avoid bad breath.

Causes of Bad Breath

People try to make sure that they smell good from head to toe so that they have no problem interacting with other people. Bad breath (read here about effective home remedies for bad breath) is one thing that can let you down in front of others and it is such an embarrassing moment that you really do not know what to do. The four main causes of bad breath are:

1.    Xerostomia

Xerostomia (Read here about, what is xerostomia?) or the commonly used term, dry mouth is one of the main reasons for bad breath that can make you feel down. When your mouth does not make enough saliva, then you suffer from the phenomena of dry mouth. Other causes include long periods of talking, alcohol consumption, smoking and snoring while sleeping (that is why some people wake up with a dry mouth!). Production of less saliva, while you sleep, can make even the slightest or mere buildup of food particles in your mouth a big issue.

2.    Food Particles

Nor rinsing your mouth or flossing your teeth post meals can lead to food particle buildup which in turn, can cause bad breath. It is because food particles stick in between your teeth and allow for germs to breed in causing bad breath in your mouth. The most probable foods to cause bad breaths are Garlic and onion. Garlic and onion contain sulfur compound and foods like meat and poultry have dense proteins in them which allow bacteria build up. These foods just provide an environment for the bacteria to breed.

3.    Diseases or Illnesses

Diseases affect your overall health as well as your personality. Diseases like Diabetes, certain types of cancer, lung and kidney problems and other chronic diseases lead to dry mouth. Another reason is the extended use of medicines. Patients consuming medicines during illnesses tend to develop bad breath.

4.    No Proper Dental Hygiene Routine

To keep your teeth healthy and happy and preventing your mouth from germs and bacteria, it is essential that you follow a proper dental hygiene routine. Halitosis (the medical term for bad breath) can occur due to lack of dental hygiene. This and other dental problems are exacerbated when people do not keep a routine check on their habits like brushing teeth twice a day, flossing, rinsing mouth post meals and staying away from things that lead to dental problems.

Bad breath can be dealt with if you develop a proper oral hygiene practice, and by practice I mean you should stick to it. Not following it properly will not do much good to you and your teeth. These are the habits you need to include in your dental hygiene routine:

1.    Brush teeth twice daily
2.    Floss your teeth (5 best ways to learn flossing effectively)
3.    Brush or scrape your tongue with a tongue scraper at the back of your brush.
4.    Pay routine visits to your dentist.
5.   Rinse your mouth after eating. You can do this with plain water only or use a mouth freshener.
